HOW THE WORLD SEES POWER

In an annual perception survey, international polling firm, Globescan, released results for 2009, finding the US reversing a previous downward trend in how the world perceives its ability to exert a positive impact, from a low of 28% in 2005, to a new high of 40% in February, 2009. The improvement is believed to be linked to the election of Barak Obama.

With the question, “Please tell me if you think each of the following are having a mainly positive or mainly negative influence in the world,Globescan, in partnership with PIPA, the Program on International Policy Attitudes and the University of Maryland, have compiled results of “perception of influence” of approximately 16 states (varies somewhat annually) as ranked by 13,000 (at times as high as 33,000) people in 26 countries since 2004.

SCARCITY VS ABUNDANCE

Last Thursday I posted an article titled Let’s Redefine Abundance. Thanks to Nick Corsi for this link from the PopTech Conference 2008 that expands on the topic.

Listen as Peter Whybrow, neuropsychiatrist, author of “American Mania: When More Is Not Enough,” describes the brain physiology of addiction of a society that demands more and more, yet is left empty, devoid and sick. This clip outlines the HOPE that underlies this economic crisis, if we will take the opportunity to make a cultural shift in our evolution.

ECONOMIC SOLUTIONS WILL BE FOUND AT THE LOCAL LEVEL

Michael Kalmanovich, owner of a unique, organic food supermarket in Edmonton, Alberta, does not lack for inspired, innovative ideas to fulfill his passion to sell locally grown organic food, socially conscious products, and a free dose of education in the process. He took his first step of faith in 1991 by opening a store with $20,000 invested, $167.00 in his bank account and a huge abundance of dreams.

Earth’s General Store was opened in a small location on the fringe of the university in the capital city of the province. It is also smack dab in the heart of a ranching and oil-based economy. It was in this province that KD Lang, a home-town celebrity, riled local extremist ranchers who defaced community signs outside her home town of Consort, Alberta, after her public service announcement in which she spoke out in favor of vegetarianism.

If opening an organic food store in a business culture like that sounds like it takes guts and a leap of faith, that pales by comparison when you hear Michael’s latest dream!

What is alternative rock?

I have always been a big Alternative Rock fan. What is alternative rock? Well, you could categorize it using a number of sub-genres such as grunge, punk, indie, hardcore, metal, or any off-shoot that isn’t completely mainstream. The last 40 years have provided an explosion in the amount of genres rock n roll has to offer. Classifying, categorizing, and placing different artists in the proper labels is incredibly difficult. But I know a guy who can give you a little help if this is something you want to tackle…

business opportunities: careers: job boards

by David VanAmburg

COMMUNITY MATTERS

Are you looking for a job, rather than building your own business? Or are you looking to solve your hiring problems for your business? There are some wonderful resources available.

I invest some of my time as a member of the Northwest Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board. Last year I donated $100,000 in billable time in creation of a strategic plan draft that was ultimately not used. There is a lot of useful information in that document. If you are interested in reading a copy, email me for access to it.

As a part of its development I looked at how people find jobs in the current marketplace, and how employers advertise and recruit. One of the common tools is the plethora of job posting sites.

Have you had the pleasure of meeting Bernard the polar bear from BRB International yet? This is a favorite slapstick humor series of 5-year olds everywhere – and a lot of 50 year-olds. Probably especially my friend Greg.

Consciousness: inspiration

CONGRATULATIONS, CANADA!

Today, we are celebrating the significant acts of two groups of people who are making a difference – first, a group of Canadians doing, 1 million right things...and secondly, 2500 Australians, who peacefully stood up for their beliefs.

My usual approach to this Friday post on Consciousness, is to recognize the inspiring efforts of an individual who is committed to doing something special to make a difference on the planet. We call this person an enlightenor. They are, typically, someone who is quietly going about doing the right things, for the right reasons.

It is exciting to see groups of people coming together – one dream – one team! On Wednesday, February 4th,2009, a Canadian team reached its goal!

network marketing: global trends

NETWORK MARKETING NO-NO’S – #4

Am I the only person who wants to run when a network marketer starts their presentation by telling me, “this product, service, or whatever has been developed, endorsed by, and is recommended by…(drum roll)… a DOCTOR in our business?”

IT MAY BE TRUE, BUT IT IS SO CLICHE!

It doesn’t matter whether it is true or not, the point is, this “endorsement” has been so overused it no longer has impact, at least not with “thinking people“…and surely, it is thinking, honest people, you want to have participate in promoting and building a business in your company.

Abundance

law of attraction: responsibility

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION = ABUNDANCE

I believe one of the reasons the concept of the Law of Attraction caught on so quickly was its resonance with ideas of abundance. We are infatuated with a definition of abundance that is about GETTING more, MAKING more, HAVING more.

That is the level of understanding many people had of what this Law is all about. And a formula or law that could possibly tell us how to acquire material wealth more quickly and easily, certainly is as attractive as being given the Midas touch.

Not sure if what I say is true? – test yourself…

HOW DOES A MINDSHIFT OCCUR?

As difficult as it may be to grasp, solutions to business and personal issues will come from places you least expect…when you are in the right mindset.

In our current global economic reality, things can seem overwhelming. Are there really any new ways to resolve seemingly complex issues?

“How will I keep my company afloat when it seems the problems are of such a magnitude that I cannot even relate to them.”

“How will I keep my job when the solutions seem to be so out of my control?”

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PASSION

I discovered our Enlightened Corporation for this week while watching a segment of the Oprah show in which she interviewed young, self-made millionaires.

Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com, was one of the guests. He is a great inspiration, a model CEO of a model corporation, for our Enlightened Orgs directory.

His business achievements are certainly significant for such a young man. While still in his twenties, Hsieh (SHAY), a computer undergraduate from Harvard, co-founded an internet advertising agency called LinkExchange, which was sold to Microsoft for $265 million in 1998. But it was actually his business philosophy or mindset, that really caught my attention.

WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT – YOU BRING ABOUT

In a kindergarten assignment to bring 100 things to school, marking the 100th day of class, six year old, Tarak McLain took a very different spin on the 100 pecans, raisins, or M & M’s that mostly appeared. Tarak, who was born in Thailand, was attending kindergarten in Austin, Texas, when he surprised his kindergarten teacher with a very different approach to this assignment.

HE COMPLIED 100 OF HIS BELIEFS….

I believe it’s OK to die but not to kill … I believe war should stop. I believe we can make peace.

A GREAT FIND

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon this book two years ago in my local Barnes & Noble. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, but this just jumped out and said “pick me”. This book is for anyone who enjoys music, science, learning, great stories, and a pleasant change from everyday reading.

EVER WONDER WHY?…
